The Face in the Mirror
By: Michael Raisler, Schroeder YMCA, WI
When you brush your teeth late at night,
Having finished your day,
The face in the mirror pierces your sight,
Hear what it has to say.
So Ive heard youre right on the ball,
Gone through life without an error,
But all the hype means nothing at all
Til youre judged by the one in the mirror.
You can go through life lying to others,
Ignoring your mothers warning,
But when the time comes to depend on a brother,
His judgement will be clouded by past mourning.
All kinds of relationships,
Where honesty is mutual philosophy,
Can grow to become the greatest of friendships,
Love is reinforced by lack of hypocrisy.
Be true to all those feelings,
Beating strongly from your heart,
Worry not about past dealings,
Your heart and mind should never part.
Your happiness will skyrocket,
The world will seem much brighter,
When everything in your pocket,
Was earned by you and not the writer.
Its not as hard as it may seem,
Dont worry Ill help you along,
It will raise your self-esteem,
When youre able to right your wrongs.
So when that face looks back in your direction,
With its lips spread widely to smile,
Youll know honesty was the right suggestion,
Making the rest of your life worthwhile.
