What are the limitations on that relay? Do the restrictions that apply to individuals swimmers participating at National also pertain to swimmers that achieve qualifying relay times (ie. age 12-21, never swam in college) Example: If a college student swims with the team during the summer and participates in a relay, can that relay time be used at Nationals with different swimmers? ]]>

Any and all Championship Meets must be Sanctioned so therefore this same rule applies.<DIV>I would recommend since you are 31 years of age that you join and swim for the Master Program..Age requirement for there meets is 19 - 100yrs.</DIV><DIV>We are hosting the YMCA Masters Championship in Ft. This is a "closed Y meet"&nbsp; Unfortunately, I was just&nbsp;informed that I would not be allowed to participate in this meet as I am over 21.&nbsp; </DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>I see that the rules state this is true for Nationals but I do not see it listed anywhere as a rule for a Championship meet.&nbsp; Is this just an "informal rule" and if not - is this the standing rule for any closed "YMCA" meet?</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>It was a little frustrating as I had to cancel flights and reservations after initially being told that I would be allowed to swim.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Thanks For your input.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.ymcaswimminganddiving.org/NATSforum/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=10">Ed Miller</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> Eliigibility<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> Jun/30/2009 at 10:04am<br /><br /><P>Glenda Pae is really a better person to answer this one, but let me take a stab at it.&nbsp; Practice schedules and how many practices are required for participation in meets are at the discretion of the local YMCA team.&nbsp; There are no national requirements.&nbsp; The only national requirements are for participation in the YMCA national championship meets and for such participation, the swimmer must have swum in three YMCA closed competitions and one YMCA sanctioned championship meet (e.g., a state, cluster or regional meet).</P><P>I don't understand your question about coaches.&nbsp; If you are asking whether a swimmer could practice with another team and have that practice qualify for the YMCA team's practice requirements, that is up to the local YMCA team.&nbsp; However, a swimmer may not represent two teams, so a swimmer couldn't swim for a YMCA team and a <U>separate</U>, <U>different</U> USA-S team at the same time.&nbsp; (Many YMCA teams are also USA-S teams, so that is not a problem for them; also high school swimming is not considered "dual representation" from a YMCA perspective.)</P><P>For reference materials, you can go to the YMCA website (<a href="http://www.ymcaswimminganddiving.org" target="_blank">www.ymcaswimminganddiving.org</A>) and read the Rules That Govern YMCA Competitive Sports, the YMCA Technical Assistance Paper and the YMCA Swimming Black Book.&nbsp; You can also read the Meet Handbook for one of the National Championship Meets, as they will answer a lot of questions that may come up in your mind.</P><P>Ed Miller, National Officials' Committee Chair</P><P>&nbsp;</P>]]>
