Hello-
I just received the email from our entry person saying we need to provide timers on Tuesday nigh finals and Friday prelims. I have no issue with the Friday prelim session, but I have an issue with the Tuesday finals session. Can't timers for finals be figured out based on the teams that have swimmers in finals? I would be more than willing to have parents time if we have swimmers there, but I know it will be near impossible to get them to come for a whole final session if no one is swimming.
I do not want to have my swimmers do it and I cannot leave them to cover the assignment myself. If I am the only one with an issue about this let me know. I do not remember being assigned a finals spot last year.
Thanks

First of all, you really need to read the whole message that was sent to your entries person, as it will explain why we have to assign timer responsibilities to the teams and how we did it. Having said that, I understand your situation, and we knew this might happen in certain cases. The message asking for the timers lists all the teams and their timing assignments. It also suggests that if you have a problem with a particular timing assignment, you should contact one of the other coaches and trade assignments. You might start with the coach from the Wilton YMCA or the Tri Hampton YMCA, as they have provided the largest numbers of timers and normally have finalists each night, so one of them may be able to switch with you. If you make a switch, please be sure to notify Chet Andruskiewicz of the change so he can adjust the assignments.

Just to be clear....I did read the whole message. I am the type of person who wants to be totally prepared. In the case that I could not switch with another team, my team would be responsible for covering the assignment.
I thought that maybe assigning timers based on the teams with swimmers in finals might be another way to go. And I explained my team situation because I wanted to be sure that no one felt I was just trying to get out of an assignment.
Thank you for responding. Edited by Kaeley9 - Jul/22/2009 at 10:01am |

Assigning timers based on which teams would have swimmers in the finals was not considered a viable alternative because we would not know which teams had swimmers in finals until after prelims and we couldn't take a chance in trying to find timers at the end of prelims each day. Moreover, it wouldn't be fair to people to suddenly tell them at Noon that they needed timers for the evening session, as people do make plans. By going out to the teams with the largest numbers of entries, we had the best chance of getting timers assigned in sufficient time that those people would know their assignments and we would know who we had for the sessions. Thank you for providing the timers requested. Your cooperation, and that of your fellow coaches, has helped to insure that we will have the requisite number of people in order to properly run the competition and give the swimmers a real championship experience.
