Hi,
I swim with a YMCA team in NJ. I am a full member of my YMCA but am currently 31. Our team is attending the TYR Capital Classic meet in NC. in December. This is a "closed Y meet" Unfortunately, I was just informed that I would not be allowed to participate in this meet as I am over 21.
I see that the rules state this is true for Nationals but I do not see it listed anywhere as a rule for a Championship meet. Is this just an "informal rule" and if not - is this the standing rule for any closed "YMCA" meet?
It was a little frustrating as I had to cancel flights and reservations after initially being told that I would be allowed to swim.
Thanks For your input.

These rules not only apply for YMCA National events but they also apply for any Closed YMCA Sanction Championship Meet. Any and all Championship Meets must be Sanctioned so therefore this same rule applies.
I would recommend since you are 31 years of age that you join and swim for the Master Program..Age requirement for there meets is 19 - 100yrs.
We are hosting the YMCA Masters Championship in Ft. Lauderdale April 14th-18th, 2010. Join your local YMCA and represent them in the Master Program.
